Tour #21. Lake Baikal, Irkutsk
city, Listvyanka and Olkhon Island. 7 Days
Tour Description:
One may call Olkhon Island "the Heart of Baikal".
Olkhon is a beautiful nude land that seems to have emerged from the fresh
waters of Baikal. The surface of the island is green and smooth like
meadows, and crumbles down in Baikal in rocky cliffs on the edges.
Olkhon is also a center of Shamanism, and there are annual spiritual
gatherings on the island, as well as ethno-music parties (in Summer).
During the tour you also visit Listvyanka village, which lies 70 km from
Irkutsk on the shore of lake Baikal.
Your tour begins in Irkutsk- one of the oldest and most attractive Siberian
cities. Irkutsk is famous for it’s wooden architecture. The city of Irkutsk
has preserved many of monuments including ancient log structures.
Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrival in Irkutsk, transfer to the hotel
City overview excursion
Walking in the city downtown, museum of local lore.
Day 2
Breakfast, transfer to Listvyanka village
Visit the Taltsy Museum of Wooden Architecture on our way from Irkutsk to
Listvyanka to see some interesting samples of old wooden houses which were
brought there from all over Siberia. In Listvyanka visit the Limnological
Museum (or Museum of Baikal), where you can learn about flora and fauna of
the lake and see some unique species in aquarium. Accommodation in the
hotel.
Day 3
Accommodation in Khuzhur which is the main village on Olkhon island. The
main places on Olkhon island, that you will not miss, are Shaman cave - a
sacred place in Khuzhir, on the shore of Baikal lake, beaches and
yurt-camps, which are about 4 km from Khuzhir, "Three Brothers" rock, and
mysterious and enchanting Khoboy Cape — the north point of the island.
Day 4, 5
Visiting museum of local lore.
Walking (horseback) trips to sacred places of Siberian shamans on the shore
of Baikal lake. It is believed to have supernatural powers by Shamans. Full
board. Walk to the most beautiful panoramic places on the shore.
Day 6
Breakfast. Transfer to Irkutsk by car or mini van
Lunch on the way
Arrival, accommodation in the hotel, dinner
Day 7
Arrival in Irkutsk, transfer to the hotel.
City overview excursion, lunch
Walking in the city downtown, museum of local lore.
Day 8
Transfer to the airport. End of services
